arise.

This post is so late...

Before we moved, I was in the Young Women presidency and had the chance to learn about the Arise Celebration long before it happened. I was excited to see it, because my young women were in it and my own sister and cousins, so Dewy and I grabbed tickets for the Saturday night showing. How often do you get the chance to witness or participate in something the prohpet wrote up and asked you to do? Whoa.
It was hotter than the blazes, and more crowded than Lagoon, but so worth it. Where was this type of thing when I was a young woman? I snapped about a trillion pictures, some of them suck.

I hardly ever cry. I pride myself on it. Movies, books, songs, commercials... nothing can crack me. Mom and Kaylee will be bawling their eyes out, but not me... they say I have a heart of stone. Welp... so much for being tough at the Arise Celebration. My word, it hadn't been ten minutes and I was crying. So embarassing.

I was too busy crying to take a picture of the veil part, but oh my word... As the kids started removing their white robes and running through the veil to the world and emerging in bright colored Tshirts I could not get it under control. There was even a kid pushing another kid who was in a wheel chair and I cried even harder... My word, I'm getting emotional just thinking about it. This was the counsel made up of the young women from my old ward. Its so much more powerful when you know the youth performing. I miss them so much, and they did such a great job.

Kaylee's counsel was so fun. She performed the song from Hairspray "You can't stop the beat." They did so good! No worries... not many tears in this part. Only a few from watching Kaylee and knowing that a few months ago her being able to perform this seemed impossible. I'm so bummed I missed it, but I hear that Kaylee made the news that night when they showed the Arise!

I love the picture in the middle. Kaylee is the middle right girl in the pink skirt smiling. The last picture here is supposed to say "You can't stop the Gospel beat" unfortunately though the person holding up the E in THE decided to drop it a little too soon.... cough... Kaylee... cough.

That middle picture shows the Elders coming down to help the kids do the "Hauka" or however you spell it. They got a little into it...

Um cue more tears! They brought the missionaries down onto the field and they had a part in the performance... Oh Nick. I wish he were here, kind of. Why do they have to leave right when you become good friends?? I mean really...
At the very end, the kids all pulled out lights and Books of Mormon as they sang. Bawled again. As they unrolled that banner of Christ and the youth all turned and sang and got down on their knees I was so struck with awe. What strength these kids have.
The whole performance was a great testimony builder, and I am so glad we went. Dewy loved it, I loved it, and it meant so much knowing a lot of the kids in it... Can't wait for the next thing these kids get to do. I wish the prophet could have made it, but there were plenty of other Salt Lake individuals who came to support!
