the bunkhouse.

After our shopping extravaganza for the day was seemingly completed, we went home. It was time to kiss the men that had missed us all day (and tried to fight their emotional womenless state by bowling their lives away and playing pool) and grab our overnight bags. We piled back in the car and drove over to Aunt Tina's pal, Sandy's, home for the night.

Sandy and Bob are friends of Aunt Tina, and are exceptionally monetarily stable. Like whoa. Bob is a dentist, and Sandy is superwoman (I asked her to admit it and she denied it, but everyone knows superheros are never allowed to reveal their identity). Their home sits on A LOT of land and they have done miraculous things with said land. You ready for this?? Buckle up.

This is a bowery in the middle of their backyard. Its fully equipped with a fireplace, ginormous wooden rocking chairs, and tikki torches. On the right you will see the tree house. This thing is literally a house in a tree. Feel free to appreciate Cade who is posing for us here. The inside of that tree house was covered in road signs. So awesome.

We pulled up and I immediately started drooling. That red house on the left? Yep thats the BUNKHOUSE. Not their house, mind you, the bunkhouse. Wait til you see inside. They had super cool landscaping all over their yard, this river and bridge was just one of the things they had. I'm just going to post pictures of the inside of the bunkhouse. You can figure out what is what. I'm lazy. Lets be honest with ourselves. Ok I'll explain a few things if you insist...

That kitchen was adorable. Non of these pictures do the place justice. Those sadles hung high on the wall. We all tried to figure out a way to climb up and sit on them.

All those license plates are covering the ceiling in the bathroom upstairs. It was insane. That picture is gigantic. The frame itself is like three feet wide. Compare it to lovely sister in law BranDee at the bottom. The picture was appraised for over $20K. They bought it for $400. ha. My kinda bargain. It had a cool story behind it. What you cant see in the picture is all the skulls painted everywhere. There were hundreds of them hidden. Bob and Sandy said they interpret the picture to show a woman walking on the "narrow path" being guided by the two angels while she plugs her ears to the rest of the world's temptations (the skulls).

Just some of the beds. So comfy.

The porch was the cutest thing. I want those yellow rocking chairs so bad. There was a little fish pond in the flower bed, but you can't see it. HOLY BATHROOM. Anyone else drooling? The entire place was antiqued and fabulous. I need it. Bob and Sandy said they built the entire house around 9 different antique doors they found. ugh... I need money so I can have it all.

The whole place was seriously huge inside. Look at it compared to the little guy. My whole house could have fit inside it. Upstairs in the loft was the bunkbeds. I slept on the bottom one over against the wall.
When we got to the house that night we roasted hotdogs in the bowery and the boys played basketball. As it got dark and the enormous mosquitoes came out (everything really is bigger in Texas) we all, boys included, went into the bunkhouse to hear Bob tell the stories about that big painting and the antique doors. We kicked those boys right out to go home and we started the snack, laugh, craft fest until we couldn't keep our eyes open a second longer. In the morning the men came back and fixed us breakfast of waffles shaped like Texas and we swam and played on the sport court some more.

That entire place was unreal. I wish I had a picture of Sandy's garden. All rocked off with each plant in a different raised planter box. Topsy-turvy pots all over the place and some plants planted in bathtubs and sewing machines that looked classy where everywhere else it probably would have looked slightly tacky. I could have stayed on that ranch all day....

Then someone said it was time to go shopping and I found motivation to leave. Today was the day for jewelry and accessories. Can't miss out on that. We faced more bad luck that night. Stay tuned to find out what.

Amber, I have come across your blog from other people's (I went to high school with Dewy) ANYWAY, I live in Texas and thought it was cool you came on an adventure here...but what is crazy is that Bob and Sandy are the parent's of my good friends here (I bet you met them because they live with Bob and Sandy right now)! How strange is it that two Hooperites know the same people in Austin? CRAZY! Their house is TOTALLY amazing and they are totally awesome people. I hope you enjoyed your time in the Lonestar state :)

I'm glad I "saved your life"! Cause I felt like you and Sheri were my Guinea Pigs, didn't feel like I helped you guys much. But my classes are a lot more organized and efficient now. Glad to hear you learned! I never would've thought I'd go at 6 am either, but so worth it kid-less. We'll see if things change when you have kids!!
